Webmasters note: Although Dave was listed as deceased in the 20 year reunion book, I've been told that he is alive and well and living in Great Falls, working for the Albertsons chain.  This has been confirmed by Theresa (Ries) Bakken and Sue (Freeman) Agostinelli.  Dave got a kick out of knowing that he had passed on....guess that will teach him not to fill out the Reunion paperwork and send it in!

July 2004
Name that we knew you as:  Rod Bond
Favorite teacher(s):  Mr. Malee; Mrs. Alexander, Miss Whelan
Your Favorite High School memory(s):  You had to be there.
What states/countries have you lived in:  MT has always been home base, but for a while it was "on the road".
What is the most bizarre thing you did in High School (that we can publish):  Again, you had to be there.
When you were a Freshman, what did you want to grow up to be:  Musician.
What have you been doing with yourself since High School (this is where you add any additional information):  Besides music, I did study and then teach martial arts.  I had a full feature article published in the July 1990 issue of Inside Kung-Fu.  I was also a Certified Fitness Trainer and a Specialist in Fitness for the Physically Limited certified by the ISSA.
But before that, in '81-'82 I toured the NW and Western Canada with a rock bar band from Seattle, playing guitar.  We played places like The Red Barn in Great Falls, The Trading Post in Missoula, etc.
In '85 I started working in a music store in Great Falls.  I played guitar, bass, or drums in various local bands and styles.  In '92 I decided it was time to get a corporate job.  That was stress!  But I digress...  In '94 I started getting sever headaches.  In mid '94 I was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor, 6.5 cm x 5 cm.  They removed it in four stages.  The last surgery in Dec. '94 paralyzed me.
I have learned to walk again etc.  The right side of my face is still paralyzed.  I began trying to play music again in 2000.  Things were slow and frustrating having to start over.  There was no muscle memory left in the right hand.
Come to find out, I had became reversed wired and am lefty now, but didn't realize it until Jan. 2004.  So now the lefty bass guitar is my main instrument and things are progressing rapidly.  Yes, I now eat, write, shave, automatically reach for something dropping, etc... all left handed.
Oh, and I was married for over 17 years...   We decided it best to go our separate ways.

Hello Fellow Classmates of 1978
Sorry I couldn’t make it out this year. I was really looking forward to it but something came up. I’m finally getting married! (Webmaster Note: A quote from Sandy's 1988 bio: "Spouse's name: NEVER!") So we’re busy planning and saving for an October party, the bachelor/bachelorette party in September (a combined water-ski/camping weekend party), and the post-party honeymoon trip to Cancun, Mexico. After that, we hope to crank out a couple of kids because I ain’t gettin’ any younger! I’m still in San Diego running my own bookkeeping/tax return business and my fiancée is currently a beach volleyball trainer soon to be certified for teaching High School physical education. Needless to say we play a lot of beach volleyball. We also love going to the Colorado River for camping, water-skiing and jet skiing. (My girlfriend and I own a boat, Paul’s family owns jet skis.) We play roller hockey and tennis, bike, scuba dive and whatever else we feel like. I finally found a man who does more sports than I do! In the winter, we get in a few snow ski/snowboard trips but for the most part I’ve become a spoiled warm weather beachcomber. I started singing with a rock-n-roll band a few years back so about once a month we do a gig at a local dive bar and have a blast! It’s so much fun! We actually even get paid for it. An yes, I’ll be singing at my own wedding, along with two other singers in the band. I wish I had time to come back to Montana, I sure miss the mountains but not the winter! I haven’t kept in touch with anyone from our class so I have no idea what anyone is up too. Keep me posted for the next one, I would love to come visit. I hope everyone is doing well and if you feel so inclined or you’re out his way, give us a holler!

Biography
A dear friend and colleague once told me that the principle guiding my character is something like, “Ron, you just don’t like to be told that you can’t do something!”  He was superficially referring to my history of flunking statistics, only to pursue it as a sub-specialty in social psychology.  My habit of challenging expectations began in Wolf Point, Montana, my birthplace on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation.  I grew up wanting to study classical music, especially opera – not the usual role for little boys sent out to play with real cowboys and Indians.  When I left high school, I moved to Boston, Massachusetts and began studying opera.

Through no fault of my own, I fell in with a crowd of psychologists, one of whom is that same dear friend.  He encouraged me to apply to Harvard College.  Since the College was founded to educate the youth of Massachusetts Bay Colony and the Indians therein, I was accepted.  It’s Harvard’s fault that I have chosen social psychology for my life’s work – they gave me my advanced degrees of A.M. and Ph.D in Social Psychology, along with my A.B. in English and American Literature.  Much of the blame falls on my first advisor, Roger Brown, who initially talked me into pursuing social psychological research instead of clinical work because I had argued with him in class about the real meaning of gay men calling themselves ‘queens’ and its application to social psychology’s work with in-group vs. out-group terms of reference.  He also convinced me to study with Robert Rosenthal, who somehow managed to teach me enough statistics to do meta-analytic work, part of my current research program.

It could be that I was scared of those cowboys and Indians, but I chose as my primary area of interest to study sex roles and stereotyping.  My program is structured from two overlapping domains, one of which is building a methodology and instrument for measuring and comparing sex role stereotypes across many racial and ethnic groups, including those of gay men and lesbians.  Closely related to this is a program of research I have designed which uses stereotyping as a means for selecting and predicting homophobic or aggressive behavior against gay-men and lesbians.

Finally, since anyone born and raised in Montana is always considered a ‘real’ Montanan, I do spend more time than is necessary living up to expectations by mountain climbing in the winter and sailing in the summer.  My partner, Sean, is foolish enough to join me in these sports and we are often found falling down snow covered peaks or righting our capsized Laser sailboats.  Michigan, with the longest lakeshore of any state and grand nature parks, offers many places for us to explore and get lost.  Adding to that Oakland University’s commitment to supporting teaching and research made choosing to become a Michigander a simple pleasure and an honor.

Ron's Offical Bio can be seen at http://www2.oakland.edu/psych/staff.cfm?ID=4690
