Apr 1999
Family: Wife: the former Merry Lynn Olson (this marriage made me a relative to a lot of people in Helena including Donna Corbet and Kathy Garden), Son: Josiah Allen Ingels, Daughter: Brandy Joy Ingels
Career: Retired from the US Air Force in Feb 1999.  I then moved on to a job in Anchorage Alaska working on (of all things) an Air Force Base doing the same thing I did for 20 years in the military.  Computers are my field.  I started as a Main Frame Computer Operator.  My pride and joy is being selected to an elite team of 12 people that converted the Air Force main frame computers from the Burroughs to the Sperry Main Frame computer.  From there I spent 3 years in charge of all telephone operations for the Air Force in Europe.  I was reassigned to Malmstrom in Great Falls in 1991.  I spent 14 years there total.  Mike KoesterVicki Afdahl, and I were stationed there together in the 1980's.  Most of my time there I was a Small Computer Manager.  I then moved on to the Network Management shop.  I got a lot of the training, but never really got to work in the shop because of manning, I had to take over the whole section.  We went through a major inspection, getting an Excellent rating and getting more "Professional Performers" then we were authorized (this meant that they had to take some awards away from the flyers and missile folks)!  We also won a "Professional Team" award.  We have won the "Best Air Force Network Control Center" twice while I've been here.  All this running a Novell network and still the Air Force insists on downgrading to Microsoft NT (can't tell my preference can you?).  My last six months in the Air Force I put together Malmstrom's Internet and Intranet web pages  I built the first Base level Intranet in Air Force Space Command.
Accomplishments: I'd have to say that there are three major accomplishments in my life. 1). My wife, son, and daughter. 2). Being on the select team for the Air Force conversion to the Sperry Main Frame Computer. 3). Getting enough training to be able to feed my family after the Air Force.
Advise: Don't go where I have "been".  I missed the bomb in 1985 at the Frankfurt Airport by a day.  I was confussed for one of the two Navy Divers on the TWA Hijacked plane in 1985.  I missed the bombing of our hotel in Athens, Greece by a day in 1985 (it was a busy year).  I missed the crash of the Italian Air Show Team at Ramstein Air Base by pure chance (I was on base, but decided not to go that year).  Missed the bombing of Kobar Towers in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia by 4 days.  Tokyo had it's "Three Mile Island" three weeks after I left.  Okinawa had its "Hurricane Andrew" 2 weeks after I left.  Tia Pai had it's earthquake two weeks after I left.
Memories: Running around in the mountains with my moms VW bug.  It would go anywhere (and did).  The Rainbow Dance.  Band and all the Band trips (especially to Canada and Minot).  Getting kicked out of Saturdays Children and then invited back.  Getting a 1 in District for my solo and then not being able to sing at State.  Having the drive shaft fall out of my dads pickup on the drag after the Helena High/Capital High Football Game (while still in my band uniform).
Classmates: Brent Hickel, Mike Koester, Jason McIntyre, Matt Huber, Marie Anderson, Vicki Afdahl, Dave Colemen, Galen McMurtrey, Mark Semmens, David Jacobson, Bert Card (we were the two QB's in grade school), Brenda Hart, Janet Kenny, Dot Lytle, Janna Sneed, Jamie Soules, Eric Posewitz, Amy Quam, Randy Fuhrmann, Jimmer Sullivan, Angie Clinch (whom I ended up working with a few years later), Doug Brock, Carol Butterton (remember Vicki - What ever did happen to her?), Bob Lea , Laurie Marxer (didn't we "sorta date"), Nancy Daniel (whom I had to kiss in an 8th grade play while she had mono), Cathy and Ed Campbell, Kimmy and Kelly O'Connell, Nancy Mills, Janet Sallgren, Jan Sassano, Allen Thomas, Emery Jones (I still remember the night Emery, Galen and I got stopped by the police for curfew), and many more.  You can't tell I have my year book right here can you?  All my girlfriends (Class of 78 only - no names mentioned here - one can only imagine how a persons life could have changed if only....): I remember sneaking into basement rooms, double dating, getting away with my only lie to my dad, tearing the door off my parents car door while driving on the La Grand Canyon Boulevard.  Compare all that to what our children have to deal with these days.
Teachers: Mrs Alexander, Mr Hardy, Mr Bunness, Mrs Harris (I'm the proud owner of her only D-...and my dad was an English teacher), Mrs. Wilson (the only class I slept through), and although she was my 3rd grade teacher I must mention Mrs. Alice Davis and my 5th grade teacher Elma Planting.  Remind me to tell you about my really "stupid" 6th grade teacher Mr. Anderson.
