Family: I've been married for 17 years to Dennis Hulst (who I met shortly after high school graduation). We have three children - Justin (11), Nicole (8) and Jaimee (3). Our newest (and most energetic) member of our family is Dakota, our golden retriever puppy.
Career: Dennis and I own a muffler shop here in town and have been running it for 18 years. I recently went to work part-time at Rocky Mountain Development council, and am finally putting my accounting degree to use.
Accomplishments: We've lead a fairly uneventful life as far as accomplishments go, I guess just keeping up with the daily grind of life and raising happy, healthy kids is an accomplishment in itself. We feel real fortunate for all we have and are happy with the path our lives have taken.
Memories: I don't now why, but the memory that comes to mind first about high school is zipping around during the lunch hour in Greg Patton's candy apple red beetle bug, and laughing the whole way!!

Family: Husband - William H., Daughter - Erin Elizabeth, Son (Foster) - Jerry
Career: Director of Thrif-Tee Home for Diabetes Care
After graduation as you may know, I married Mark Merrill, (CHS Class of '76). We amicably parted ways two years later. I then began my search for a future. After two and a half years of various vocational and emotional endeavors, I met and married Bill Bolster (father of Phillip Bolster, CHS class of '81). Three months later in June 1983 we moved to my husband's home state of Virginia. Through my husbands position as Director of Education and as an active teacher in a private Lutheran School for emotionally disturbed boys, we spent a summer acting as group home teaching parents in one of the on-campus cottages for the boys. As we had no children of our own, we decided that fall to get involved in Foster Care. We were given custody of a 12 year old named Jerry. Jerry is now 16 and still with us. We have also had several temporary placements in the past four years. My mother, whom we lost to cancer in 1981, always said I was one to have things my way no matter what anyone else said. She was right! When doctors told us there wouldn't be children of our own, because of various medical problems, we left disappointed. I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on November 16, 1985! Erin Elizabeth Bolster was born 11 months after they told us no way!. Needless to say, she's the prettiest, smartest baby on earth. I've enclosed pictures, only because I've run out of people in this state to send them to. I am working as the Director of a nationwide mail order service diabetics, Thrif-Tee Home Diabetes Care and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have been able to work under unique conditions. My employer, after my daughter was born, wanted me to continue working, but my husband and I did not want our baby in day care at such an early age. I didn't want to stay home either. My boss solved the problem by building my office to accommodate my daughters needs. Erin was able to be with me every day until she was 18 months old, when she spent the summer with her daddy (he doesn't work in the summer) and she is now in day care. We have just completed the construction of a new home in Roanoke County, Va. Bill's parents are in Roanoke and we decided to build close to them since they are Erin's only living grandparents (I lost my father in Dec. 1985 to a heart attack). We sold the house and small farm we had in Franklin County, VA in June 1987 after the contractor assured us our dream house was only a few weeks away. We put our furniture in storage, moved into our camper on the land near our new home and sat for nearly 4 months while the contractors took their time. This was a real test of our marital strength and the strength of our family, but we made it and our dream house feels like a Hilton Hotel compared to the camper. I am really looking forward to the reunion. Because of our foster care activities, it is next to impossible for my husband to come with me. He will stay behind and keep the children.

Career: Psychiatric Counselor
In 1978 I attended U of M at Missoula for 2 semesters. In 1979 I moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and worked as an Insurance Service Rep. In 1981 I moved to Phoenix, AZ first working at an Insurance Company, then started school to pursue my degrees. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Arizona State University located in Tempe, AZ. I am now employed as a Psychiatric/Educational Counselor at a behavioral health hospital in nearby Chandler, Arizona. I am currently single, struggling to pay off the expense of my education. I have no plans to return at this time.
Apr 2003 Update
I am a psychotherapist at Scottsdale Behavioral Hospital. A private psychiatric hospital. I specialize in adolescent treatment, and am the clinical care manager.
I am not married, however have a close circle of good friends and associates throughout the country. I have no children. I have two Siamese cats who are my pride and joy.
I really don't remember any teachers in high school particularly. I was quite intent on getting good marks and making high school go by as quickly as possible. I do remember an English teacher who taught senior English. I remember liking her because she treated all with respect and dignity. She was a older, rather rotund lady. Anyone remember her name? (sic - Mrs. Harris maybe)
Probably one of the high school memories that stands out the most is going to a keg party at the White Sand beach at Hauser Lake in which, while quite inebriated, I was thrown over the fire between two groups of "jocks". Sandy Anders was quite drunk at the time and walked into the lake carrying a large bottle of wine, and had to be "fished" out of water over her head. Another might be the time my girlfriend at the time Julie Beckstrom drove my car, not knowing how and hit David Strand in the leg. He survived the incident without even a bruise. The Vigilante parade was always a hit, and how about the streaker at our graduation?
Just after graduation, Marie Anderson and I took a 2 week trip to California. I liked it and decided that I would make a move there as soon as I could work and earn enough money. That fall however, I went to Missoula for 2 quarters, but decided that university was not in the cards at that time. I moved shortly thereafter, and became waylaid in Las Vegas and spent 2 years living there. I then discovered that Kathy Richards was living in Phoenix, visited and shortly thereafter moved there. That was 1981, and I am still here. Kathy moved back to Helena in the late 80s. I worked for a few years and then began my eight years of study at Arizona State University. Three degrees later, I began working for a private psychiatric hospital, and have been there since. I have ascended the ladder and am now the director of clinical care in the adolescent area. Life is good for me here in Phoenix. I really enjoy all it has to offer. I am in good health and travel extensively throughout the country, Canada and Mexico. If any of you are in the Phoenix area, let me know and if I am not out of town, we can catch up on old times.
I do not "hang out" with any former classmates, as I don't believe there are any here in Phoenix. I don't get back to Montana very often, maybe twice a year at most. My folks still live there, as does my younger brother.

10 Jul 1999 Update
Family: Joe and Kelle are the proud parents of three girls. Stephanie is 15 and will be a junior at HHS (we know, wrong school). Amanda is 13 and will be in 8th grade and Meghan is a 12 year old 7th grader. Both attend Radley Middle School in East Helena. We have invested an incredible amount of $$ in hair products and clothes. All three are quite busy with basketball and soccer.
We spend our spare time boating and camping during the summer and skiing and snowmobiling during the winter. We spent two months in Alaska during the summer of 1992 and recently returned from Disneyland and San Diego. We have also been on three week-long pack trips into the Bob Marshall Wilderness.
Career: Teaches 6th graders (pray for her) math at HMS in Helena. She stays quite busy with her students and also finds time to work on the reunion committee.
Accomplishments: Three daughters? We’re alive aren’t we. Enough said.
Classmates: Dean Letcher and Paul Tucci and their unfortunate flat tire on Mount Helena very late at night. Mark Lies and basketball bus trips, spending quality time sitting next to Coach Carter. Mark Semmens and the teeth marks on the dash of his Ford pickup. Amy Ward’s temporary loss of consciousness in freshman Spanish class. Ask Kelle for the details....she might not remember all of them. Vigilante Parade preparation (?) At O’Fallon’s house and the 2:00 a.m., ham bake. Steve Skains and his nonstop joke parade all the way to Bozeman.
Teachers: Steve Skains and poor Mrs. Wilson!! Spanish class, basketball with Senor Logan. Chemistry class with my lab "partner" Mark Semmens. Basic Radio and T.V...it was the beginning of my radio career! P.E. assistants (Steve and I) for Coach Carter during our senior year. Coach Carter thought we didn’t do enough for the class...the problem was he started class too early and we didn’t usually show up until 9:00 a.m. English class with Ms. Slattery..she hasn’t forgotten yet.
Activities: Selling ads for the parade, fireman’s club, after school bird hunting, out-of-town trips for basketball, Boys State, and on, and on, and on. Kelle and I pray daily our children attempt only half of what their parents did. A scary thought indeed.

1998
NOW! TWENTY YEARS LATER
Twenty years Whew! When in high school I could not even imagine 20 years later...now, it is NOW! I was known in high school as Mary Mudd and to others as Mudd, Muddly, Mud puddle...it was a fun last name, which I changed in 1981 when I married Jay Hayes. I almost kept "Mudd" but knowing I would be going into the teaching profession AI, again, couldn't imagine how I would be addressed, so I went with Mary Hayes.
I met Jay at Eastern Montana College, where I studied for two years. I moved to Brookings, SD after our wedding in May 1981, we were soon transferred to Mayville, ND (this was NOT the place in my opinion, to take a Montanan) where I earned my degree from Mayville State College (known today as a University) in elementary Education with a minor in Early childhood Ed. We moved back to Brookings in June of 1984 where Jay was in the Food Service with SDSU. I found a job with a daycare center and one year later we started a family.
We have three children, all of whom were born in Brookings, Sean is 11-entering 6th grade next year. Christopher is 9 entering 4th grade; and Cassandra is 6-going into 1st grade. I have been home all of those years while substitute teaching or building various businesses out of my home, like Tupperware, Weekender Casual Wear, and now I am a distributor for Dorling Kindersley Family Learning INC. (a publishing company) and USANA (a nutritional company). I do not regret for a minute having been home with my kids, especially when so many things have changed in the last 20 years.
June 5, 1997 our family moved to Woodbury, MN where Jay is a District Manager for Fine Host, a food service management company and I am moving on with my teaching career. I substitute taught this year and will have my first interview for an Elementary teaching position on June 8th. Perhaps I will have a classroom of my own and will just begin a new phase in my life ( at the turn of 20 years after...)! I have to admit, I miss Montana and it's open country. I didn't realize just how much until I moved to Mnpls-St. Paul area!
I regret that I am not able to join everyone this year, I was really looking forward to it (because at the 10th I was sooo pregnant, I couldn't even party)! We all know, however, that "stuff happens"! My mother, at age 72, recently had triple by-pass surgery and with that ordeal I have chosen to not attend the class reunion, and spend more time with my parents and family at a reunion during the last week of July. When moving up in age "ourselves" those elderly folk in our lives are so much more important, we just never know when they will pass on!
So have a wonderful time, and I will see ya'll at thirty? Your classmate Mary (Mudd) Hayes.
